How to Plan Outfits for Family Photos
This has been a highly requested post, and for good reason! Sometimes planning outfits for the entire family is daunting…so I’m here in hopes to help you sort it out! I’m going to be sharing a few tips to help you get started, and some options that I think would be great for the occasion.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Coordinate, don’t match. Not everyone needs to be wearing the same color, the outfits should coordinate, but not match. The different tones and textures are what we are going for!
Choose a color palette. This part is important because if you go out blindly looking for options, it will be hard to narrow it down. I tend to always go with a neutral palette just because that’s what I am drawn to but I do think a pop of color or adding in some jewel tones is so fun! Here are a few color combinations that I love, for inspo:
Gray / Ivory / Blush
Navy / Ivory / Blush
Gray / Oatmeal / Navy
Burgundy / Gray / Oatmeal
Burgundy / Navy / Gray
Mustard / Gray / Ivory
Mustard / Navy / Gray
Rust / Ivory / Gray
Emerald Green / Gray / Ivory
Be comfortable. There is nothing worse than deciding to wear something that you’re constantly adjusting, and anytime I’ve done that I’ve regretted it! Choose something you feel comfortable in, and that goes for the kids also ;)
Keep it classic. We all want to keep these family photos forever, so I always shy away from an outfit or hairstyle that is super trendy. Classic styles will stand the test of time!
Decide on the vibe. Are you leaning towards a more casual look or a dressier look? Once you know that part, see below on some options! I’ll share some tops, sweaters, and dressier options for mom and then some other things that caught my eye for the rest of the family!
I’m going to start with options for Mom because let’s face it, we are the pickiest! I’m going to share some different categories whether you’re looking for something more casual like a top and jeans or if you’re hoping to mix it up this year with a sweater dress or skirt!

I hope you have found this helpful in planning your family outfits this year!
